Trestle Table. 2015, 48" x 96" x 34" (down position). 48" x 48" x 34" (up position)

African Mahogany. Prototype.

Three levels of thinking are expressed in this Trestle Table.  First, there is a basic need to create a table. The table will be placed on a deck and serve as a place to host outdoor dinner parties.  When there is not a special event only two seats are needed at the table.  This is where the second level of thinking is applied.  The idea of a kinetic action was introduced into the design. In the closed position the table seats a minimum of four people and then opens to accommodate a larger seating arrangement of eight. This transformation inspired the third level of thinking.  The table is a manifestation of the duality of the conscious and the unconscious. The table top joint pattern holds a message of change and at the same time finds perfect harmony in both the open and closed position.  Awareness is bestowed onto the user with the discovery of a second table emerging from the original form. The Trestle Table fulfills the need for a basic table, seats 4 or 8 people and creates a forum for discussion of the intellectual pursuit of high design.
